Every year, decision-makers from politics, business and science meet at the World Food Convention to discuss the future of agriculture. In 2017, The Berlin daily newspaper “Tagesspiegel” recognized the importance of putting food production and its challenges at the center of society and launched the World Food Convention. After all it’s not only farmers who are responsible for a functioning agricultural system, which can feed humanity and at the same time protect the environment, but all who eat food. The participants at the Convention agreed on one thing this year: The only solution to the challenges of our food system is a radical change in our eating habits, in food production and processing, and in the political management of these issues.
Our Minister of agriculture, Julia Klöckner relies on a global nutrition system and knowledge transfer between different disciplines, beyond national borders. In her keynote address, she emphasized the potential of digitization for efficient agriculture.
We were invited to attend the Pioneers’ Pitch and introduce SeedForward’s guiding principles, as well as our ecological products as alternatives to chemically synthesized substances in agriculture. We found it particularly important to point out that one needs to look at the agrarian system holistically and with foresight. The agricultural policy must reach beyond the legislative period in order to guarantee sustainable solutions. However, digitization is not the only solution; agriculture must be systematically thought through.
Next to us, startups like PEAT, Agrikaab Ltd and Mimika have presented their ideas as part of the Pioneers’ Pitch. 700 guests from all over the world participated in the event and provided for a lively exchange of knowledge.
